10 Major Concerns About Upcoming Movies

6. James Wan Isn't Directing - The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Given the consistency of the first two Conjuring movies, there seems to be little reason to doubt that James Wan will deliver a worthwhile trilogy-capper - except that he isn't directing the upcoming threequel.

Though Wan will be staying on as producer and gets a story credit, directorial duties will this time be handled by Michael Chaves, who recently helmed the Conjuring Universe's dud spin-off The Curse of La Llorona.

While the script is at least being penned by the writer of the second movie, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, these movies are really more about how they're presented than their stories, and without Wan's sure filmmaking hand it's easy to be skeptical.

Given Chaves' mediocre work on The Curse of La Llorona, it's difficult to imagine him making the inspired best of potentially familiar material, though Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will surely elevate it where possible.

Yet with Wan having producer and/or story credits on some of the series' worst movies to date - namely Annabelle, The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona - his tacit involvement doesn't really carry much weight.
