10 Major Issues Surrounding The Justice League Movie
2. Warner Bros. Don't Have The Best Track Record With The Characters
DC and Warner Bros. pressing ahead so quickly with a Justice League movie could very well have something to do with the fact that outside of Batman and Superman, the studio have struggled to make any of their other top-tier characters relevant to cinema audiences. It speaks volumes about the ability to create projects for their other characters that Batman and Superman boast 14 theatrical releases between them while Wonder Woman and others still sit at a big fat zero. Man of Steel rebooted the title character just 7 years after the disappointing critical and commercial performance of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns nixed any franchise potential. Similarly, Ben Affleck's upcoming turn as Batman will come just 4 years after the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, generally regarded as the greatest superhero series ever committed to film. Green Lantern spent years in development, only for the movie to flop spectacularly when it finally hit theaters. Ever since the turn of the 21st Century talk of a live-action Wonder Woman movie has been constant, with the names of Joss Whedon and Nicholas Wending Refn interested over the years before Gal Gadot was announced to be playing the character in Batman vs Superman. The Flash was initially announced in 2004 with David Goyer at the helm, then with Shawn Levy in 2007 and again with Greg Berlanti in 2010 but nothing ever came together. There were rumors of an Aquaman solo project that quickly disappeared, adding to the list of DC characters that have failed to make the leap to the big-screen. With such a long history of adaptations that haven't even gotten past the development stage, its a risky move to throw nearly all of them into one movie without so much as an origin story.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
