1. The DC Cinematic Universe Has Expanded Far Too Quickly
Only two movies after Man of Steel, DC is playing its full hand and giving us a Justice League movie. While there is plenty of cause for excitement, it is also an incredibly risky move to hedge their bets for a shared cinematic universe on just one movie, given the number of variables. Man of Steel was widely predicted to sail past the billion dollar mark at the box office, and only in today's Hollywood would a total gross of $688m be regarded as a slight disappointment. Instead of allowing the Superman universe to explore the established mythology in a straightforward sequel, things quickly escalated and instead we are now having Superman vs Batman shot back-to-back with Justice League. The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman has greatly divided opinion, and the project will be one of the most anticipated movies in history. But how would it affect the Justice League movie if Batman Vs. Superman was a commercial disappointment? What if the movie received less than favorable reviews? That would create a severe problem for the follow-up. As for Justice League itself; if the reviews are less than great then the DC Cinematic Universe could be dead in the water. Poor reactions to the movie and/or the likes of Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern and The Flash would make the public more reluctant to see these characters in their own standalone movies. Obviously, Superman and Batman would remain largely unscathed by any backlash but the Justice League project is as ambitious as it is risky; by placing all of their faith in one movie DC and Warner Bros. could either secure the future of their shared cinematic universe, or see the whole thing fall apart in just one movie. I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
