3. The Mandarin Is Real - All Hail The King
The Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3 was divisive for the Marvel fanbase, with hardcore fans finding it to be an insult to the comic villain. Marvel themselves were clearly taken aback by this too, and they were flooded with numerous articles and hate mail decrying the decision.
In an effort to make peace they commissioned the short film All Hail The King, with Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, the drunken actor who impersonated the terrorist leader. A documentary crew come to visit Trevor in prison following the events of Iron Man 3, but the short reveals they were actually sent by the real Mandarin, who is very unhappy with Trevor for his performance.
It’s a neat little twist and the short was well received by fans, but it feels like The Mandarin himself is unlikely to actually appear in the MCU.
