10 Major On-Set Clashes That Almost Ruined Recent Movies

7. Ryan Gosling Vs Rachel McAdams, The Notebook (2004)

The critically-acclaimed romantic comedy, still adored by so many 20-somethings today, propelled both stars into the bigtime yet, shockingly, they simply hated one another on set. All that on-screen chemistry was a hoax, and belied the enmity they held for one another.

In fairness to McAdams, it seems Gosling had far more gripes about her than vice versa. At one point Gosling demanded McAdams be kicked off the film, stating he just ‘wasn’t getting anything from her.’ Later he’d demand a stand-in actress be used for her off-camera scenes because he couldn’t stand the idea of looking at her any more than necessary.

The pair were allegedly screaming and yelling at one another throughout the film. Perhaps Gosling summed it up best when he stated, ‘we inspired the worst in each other.’ Yet The Notebook is cited as one of the most sparkling romance films of the modern era, and the irony is that Gosling and McAdams dated one another once filming was completed.
