10 Major On-Set Clashes That Almost Ruined Recent Movies
6. Brad Pitt Vs Shia LaBeouf Vs Everyone, Fury (2014)
The story of a Sherman Tank crew set over the course of one momentous day was an intense and eye-opening spin-off of the WW2 genre and was well received by critics and fans alike. But Director David Ayer really put the actors through a gruelling military Boot Camp on this one, insisting the stars get into fist fights with one another every day as training. Sounds cool.
But War films are often fraught with high tensions since they require such painstaking choreography for the set-pieces and method acting can be similarly toxic for on-set relations. Throw in good old Shia LaBeouf in the mix and you have one hell of a movie set. LaBeouf, playing the Bible-quoting gunner Boyd Swan seems to have taken things to extremes, getting into the gunner’s mind-set in extremis, even refusing to wash or bathe to better replicate WW2 conditions. Brad Pitt requested LaBeouf sleep away from the rest of the cast at a nearby B & B. LaBeouf has since intimated that other people were reluctant to punch Pitt full-pelt.
Who won these fights is a tantalising ponderable for movie buffs across the world. It seems hard to blame LaBeouf for this one though, and David Ayer’s exacting directing techniques are most likely the issue. Even a stuntman was stabbed by a bayonet and airlifted to hospital during filming.
