10 Major Plot Predictions For Captain Marvel

4. The Death Of Mar-Vell Causes Carol To Leave Earth

The Life Of Captain Marvel
Marvel Comics

In the comics, Carol Danvers first assumes the Ms. Marvel identity during an encounter with the original Mar-Vell, and she hangs around on Earth for most of the time after the fact. The only time she truly left Earth for a protracted period was during her years as Binary, where she joined the Starjammers and fought to preserve the Shi'ar Empire, and even that came during a period of immense emotional trauma.

While it's possible that both Carol and Mar-Vell could share their Kree powers for a period, it's more than likely that Jude Law's character will pass on at some point. Carol, now assuming the mantle of Captain Marvel, will then take to the stars to fulfil the responsibilities Mar-Vell never could, exploring, adventuring, and taking on the threats of the cosmos before they can ever reach Earth.

What's interesting to note is that Danvers seems to give Fury the pager, implying that she never planned to return to Earth unless it required urgent assistance. There must be a massive driving factor at play for her to leave for so long, and as far as drives go, they don't get much bigger than the death of a mentor.
