One of the most controversial moments in Harry Potter history occurred when J. K. Rowling announced that the character of Dumbledore is actually gay. Many championed the move, congratulating her on being more inclusive, whereas others felt the reveal was shoehorned, and questioned why she wasn't brave enough to tackle the subject matter within the actual context of the books.

Regardless, it's out there now, and it's canon. One detail Rowling specifically gave was that Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, the overarching villain of Fantastic Beasts. With Johnny Depp cast as the nefarious wizard in the upcoming Beasts sequel, and with talks of who will play a young Dumbledore out in the open, it's obvious their relationship will be touched upon.

Given what we know about this relationship, then, it's likely their romantic history will be explored. Is Grindelwald gay too? Did he and Dumbledore have any semblance of romantic relationship, leading to Dumbledore's love? With Rowling herself writing the scripts for the next four movies, rest assured these questions will be answered.

It's possible that Grindelwald is gay, given his almost seductive treatment of Credence, stroking his hands and face while talking to him. If this is the case, it'd lend a huge amount of depth to their relationship, as Dumbledore is emotionally destroyed by Grindelwald's using magic for destruction.
