10 Major Resolutions For DC Movies In 2017

6. Release David Ayer's Real Cut Of Suicide Squad

He might have toed the company line and went along with the suggestion that the cut that was released of Suicide Squad was his own, and that he was happy with it, but part of David Ayer must be dying inside that he wasn't allowed to release his vision for Suicide Squad without the studio's influence in the edit.

There are suggestions of his darker film in there, and the Extended Cut did add in some material, but that was far from a Director's Cut and served no greater purpose than hyping up the home release of a film that was catastrophically mauled at the cinema. It needed a shot in the arm, even with the Critics v Fans narrative the fanbase helpfully established.

So why not just serve both masters and release a Director's Cut too? It might show off how much control the studio wrestled from Ayer, but it would mean more income and would allow a director who looks to have been beaten down to acquiescence an opportunity to take pride in his work.
