10 Major Resolutions For DC Movies In 2017
5. Stop Trying To Make The Costumes Hyper-Realistic
What is it about superhero movies these days that they seem to think adapting comic book aesthetics directly is such a toxic idea? Ever since X-Men refused to put Wolverine in yellow spandex there seems to have been a conscious movement to make costumes super-realistic, turning them into functional uniforms rather than what they're supposed to be - COSTUMES?
The Justice League do look pretty bad-ass standing all together swathed in steam (because that's how ALL DCEU promo images are presented for some reason), but they look like riot police (apart from Wonder Woman, who has exactly the right look) rather than superheroes.
The idea of costumes is to exude the super part of superheroism, it's a statement and a spectacle and turning everything that was once a symbol of hope or fear or showing off into functional things whose colours and flashiness are simply incidental to their function is not what superheroes should be. For God's sake, let them peacock.
