10 Major Reveals From The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Novelisation

8. How Much Supreme Leader Snoke Fears Luke Skywalker

Seeing as Luke Skywalker very deliberately removed himself from the world by going into exile after Kylo Ren murdered the new generation of Jedi Knights he was training, why is Supreme Leader Snoke so worried about the Resistance finding him and bringing the one time Rebel hero back into the thick of the battle between them and The First Order? Star Wars: The Force Awakens sort of addresses that, but it's the novelisation which takes that a step further and really emphasises the fact that Snoke is terrified of Luke. In the conversation that takes place when he tells Kylo Ren that he should bring Rey to him, Snoke is the one who is determined to destroy the star system the Resistance is based in despite General Hux's protests that they have valuable resources, which could be of use to The First Order. He wants the system gone so Luke can never be found and frequently repeats his desire to destroy the Jedi, whether it's by the hand of The First Order or Kylo Ren. What he's so frightened of still isn't explored in great depth, but what came across in the movie as a confident declaration to ensure that Skywalker remains lost feels more like sheer desperation on the part of the mysterious villain here.
