10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Cosmic Moments That Must Happen
2. Captain America Confronts Thanos
The Infinity Gauntlet comic book arc saw Thanos killing heroes en masse with ease, as he wielded the titular item of power. After he dispatched a small army of them in exotic, playful and brutal ways, the only man left standing was Captain America, who Thanos sees as a joke because he has no real super-powers to speak of. However, the heroic super soldier showed no fear of his godlike foe and strode over to confront him. He told Thanos that as long as one man stood against him, he'd never truly achieve his victory. Thanos then bizarrely resorted to duking it out with the hero in a fist fight (despite the fact he had the power to destroy the universe with a thought), and he missed with his first swing, prompting Cap to take a shot of his own. However, the hero found that his feet had been merged to the very ground beneath them, simply because the reality-warping Thanos had willed it to happen. Thanos then smashed the super solider's supposedly unbreakable shield with a casual backhand and delivered a killing blow to Captain America, who died a truly epic and heroic death - showing no fear whatsoever, despite the fact that he was essentially fighting God.
