10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Moments When Characters Failed At Life

5. Trevor Slattery Takes Responsibility For Mass Murder (Iron Man 3)

If you don't know the tale of the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 now, you must have been under a rock for the last year. Essentially, in Iron Man 3, the Mandarin is not as he is depicted in the comics. Not even close. He is presented in video messages to the world as a bearded man in dark glasses who warns of his future acts of terror, but is later revealed to be Aldrich Killian (and, later still, even he is revealed not to be the real Mandarin, but that's another story). So, it turned out that the bearded guy was Trevor Slattery - a drunken British actor who was used as a front to allow Killian to work undetected. Slattery essentially allowed himself to be the face responsible for thousands of deaths and, while he pleaded ignorance on the matter, he knew exactly what he was doing really. Taking cash to make people think you were a mass murderer? Not only is this epic failure of a despicable level, but it was also obviously always going to end with the idiot in jail - which is exactly what happened in the end.
