2. Red Skull

Appeared In: Captain America: The First Avenger. It seems like every year that's gone by since the Red Skull disappeared into the Tesseract's portal in front of Captain America there's been rumors of him showing up again. Fans had their fingers crossed he'd surface in The Avengers, then felt certain that Alexander Pierce would rip his face off to reveal himself as the Red Skull, and - even now - people are hoping he'll be in Civil War. It's been no secret that Hugo Weaving has no interest in reprising the role, and it's not as though the MCU would require him to bring Red Skull back, especially since they've recast big roles like Rhodey and Bruce Banner already. However, Weaving is excellent, and it's hard not to want to see him back - even just for continuity's sake - making life difficult for Cap and all his allies. HYDRA continues to be very much an active force in the MCU, and Red Skull is often name-dropped on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so the character's presence is still being felt even in his absence. It'd be a shame for him to never return after being transported away, whether it's revealed he's allied with Thanos or otherwise, and it's about time Cap's first big nemesis gets some definitive closure.
