10 Marvel Comics You Must Read Before Phase 3
2. The Infinity Gauntlet
Film: Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 (May 3, 2019)
Jim Starlin and George Perez’s story is the reason every comic book fan flipped out when Thanos showed up at the end of The Avengers. Wielding a fully-functional Infinity Gauntlet, and madly in love with a personification of Death, Thanos wipes out half the universe with a snap of his fingers, just to try and win her favour.
Plot specifics aside, it’s basically an epic space brawl where all of Marvel’s greatest heroes, and a few villains, band together to stop a being with the power of a God. In doing so, it vastly expands the MCU, and gives meaningful roles to characters like Nebula and Adam Warlock. It also offers a chance for anyone and everyone to come back, just picture Captain America, Loki, and Rocket Raccoon fighting side-by-side
Even if the plot is bogged down a bit by dumb villain syndrome, where Thanos turns off most of the gems just to show he can beat every hero without them, it’s still crazy exciting. The whole story is basically one epic battle, so it would need some plot buffering, especially to last two movies, but trust that there is a reason that Thanos is so beloved and this story is so revered by fans.
