Fans were left a little disappointed to hear that Brie Larson's debut as Carol Danvers would be coming a year later than expected, but it's a move that does, at the moment at least, make a lot of sense.

Right now, we know that Captain Marvel will be set in the nineties and that it'll be arriving in 2019, a year after Infinity War. Giving the character a solo introduction first is certainly the most organic way of bringing them in, especially if, as has been speculated, she'll be returning to Earth with bad tidings. We know not yet what the fourth Avengers film will bring, but it's likely that the Captain will be taking a leading role - potentially in a more literal sense.

Carol Danvers has always been a leader on the page, and recently (and uncharacteristically) went to war with Tony Stark in the pages of Civil War II with a legion of heroes at her disposal. She's a born leader, and with both Cap and Iron Man likely leaving the team through various circumstances in the fourth Avengers film, she's the one best equipped to take the reigns.

Well, it's either that or she joins the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Avengers make the most sense however, given the Earth connection, but, irrespective of the team Marvel does head up, it's clear that she'll be featuring prominently in the universe after 2019.
