If you – like a good chunk of the viewing public – weren’t able to translate the Russian that Whiplash angrily mumbles at Justin Hammer during their dinner scene, that’s more than understandable. In actual fact, a good portion of the Russian-speaking audience didn’t decipher it for some time either, as apparently the accent put on the sentence makes it almost indecipherable.

However, due to some translating troopers – and an interview with Whiplash’s actor – we know the actual words spoken. The line roughly translates to ‘If someone kills me, don’t wake me up, because I’d rather die than live in your world.’, which is a fairly important line in learning about Vanko’s mindset.

It’s a nice way to differentiate between him and the villain from the first film, as while both use huge metal death suits, their motivations for doing so are wildly different.
