10 Massive Movie Franchises With No Interesting Characters
2. The Fast and the Furious
Ever since the lightbulb went off and the brains behind the Fast and Furious series decided that the only way to save themselves from irrelevance was to undergo a reinvention into a globe-trotting and logic, physics and gravity-defying monster of a blockbuster franchise, these utterly ludicrous movies have been an absolute delight.
You know exactly what you're going to get, and it isn't going to make a lick of sense, but you're going to have a damn good time nonetheless. We've spent the better part of two decades with Dominic Toretto and his extended family, but besides seeing them on the big screen so often they haven't given us much of a reason to have the connection with them that we do.
The team is comprised entirely of archetypes, tropes and cliches, but people still can't get enough of them. All Vin Diesel has to do is mumble the word 'FAMBLY' twenty times per movie and audiences are all-in, even though each established member of the ensemble wouldn't be interesting in the slightest without their support group.
Even after all this time they can still be defined entirely by a stock description like 'the leader', 'tough chick', 'tech guy', 'tech girl', 'comedy relief' and 'that same character that The Rock always plays'.
