10 Massive Movie Twists That Were Secretly Obvious

1. The Mother Is Exactly Like The Stuffed Birds - Psycho

And, finally, here€™'s one of the biggest "How did I not notice that?" moments in the history of twists. As you probably already know, at the end of Alfred Hitchcock'€™s 1960 movie Psycho, it€™'s revealed that Norman Bates€™ mother has actually been dead for years. She isn'€™t the film'€™s killer, as we'€™ve been led to believe. In actuality, her son is mentally unwell and has been running around killing people whilst dressed in her clothes, keeping her skeleton stored in the basement all the while.

Joseph Stefano€™s screenplay includes one incredibly prescient line of dialogue, though, allowing Anthony Perkins€™ Norman Bates to foreshadow the ending in a huge way. Norman says this to motel guest Marion, when she asks about his mother: "€œOh, but she's harmless. She's as harmless as one of those stuffed birds."€ Indeed she is.

As always, it€™'s much easier to spot the clues when you know what you€™'re looking for.
