10 Massively Missed Opportunities In Recent Movies

6. NOT Killing Michael Myers Once And For All - Halloween

What Should've Happened

The most recent Halloween sequel concludes with Michael Myers trapped in the basement of Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) house, which was designed to capture Michael all along.

Laurie sets fire to the house in the hope of finally ending her nightmare once and for all, and that's...exactly what should've happened.

Given that this movie was the only truly worthwhile follow-up in the 11-film franchise, and duly ignored every single movie after Carpenter's '78 original, it felt apt that this would serve as the ultimate, final word on the horror icon.

What Actually Happened

Studios like money, and of course, the final seconds of the film had to show an empty basement, implying that Michael had escaped and would be back on yet another murderous rampage in the inevitable sequel.

While it would've been naive to assume that Universal would allow director David Gordon Green to give Myers a concrete ending, there sure was a faint glimmer of hope. Ultimately, Michael's implied escape just made the hyped-up showdown with Laurie feel a bit hollow in retrospect, no matter how deliciously tense it was.

Plenty of hit franchises make three or four movies and call it a day - do we really need a twelfth Halloween movie? The series has grossed over $620 million worldwide on a combined $90 million budget - is that not enough?
