10 Massively Missed Opportunities In Recent Movies
5. NOT Making The "Predator Killer" Dutch OR Ripley - The Predator
What Should've Happened
After the Upgrade Predator is defeated, Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook) and his autistic son Rory (Jacob Tremblay) are taken to a government lab where they witness the unboxing of the benevolent Predator's precious cargo - nicknamed the "Predator Killer."
Many fans were understandably expecting the pod to reveal not a weapon, but a person - Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from the original Predator movie, which would've served as one hell of a crowd-pleasing sequel-bait tease. Arnie was in fact offered a different role to set-up a sequel, but passed on it.
An alternate sequence that was filmed, however, saw the Predator Killer revealed to be Aliens' Ellen Ripley and Newt - both played by a stand-in - which while raising a ton of narrative and logistical questions, at least would've been more exciting than...what we got.
What Actually Happened
The Predator Killer turns out to be an Iron Man-esque armoured suit, kitted up to the gills with a comical amount of weaponry, all rendered in visually repulsive CGI no less.
This is the last thing fans wanted to see and ultimately quite emblematic of every mistake the movie made along the way - over-complicated, over-stuffed with bad CGI, unintentionally comical, and cynically trying to cash-in on another hit movie franchise.
Shane Black, for shame.
