10 Massively Underrated Horror Movies
8. Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch
Depending on your point of view, Halloween III is either an insult to one of the most iconic horror series of all time, or its most unique instalment. The film tends to polarise opinion, but most overlook it entirely.
The concept of a Michael Myers-free Halloween was borne out of John Carpenter and Debra Hill's bold ambitions to reshape the successful slasher franchise as an anthology series, focusing on a different scary story each time.
Needless to say, it didn't go down well among hardcore fans, but Halloween III must be judged on its own merits, of which there're many if you give it a chance.
Telling the story of a pagan cult disguised as a toy company and its plan to kill the youth of America with a line of cursed Halloween masks, Tommy Lee Wallace's black sheep of the family is one of the most original horror movies of its generation.
A solid performance from Tom Atkins carries the film and there are some shocking moments in there too, among all of the oddity, such as the relentlessly bleak ending. Don't allow Michael's absence to weight heavy in your mind and you'll be in for a treat, and a few tricks as well.
