10 MCU Characters Fans Love To Hate
4. Ultron
When looking back on the monstrous threats thrown at the MCU's band of Mightiest Heroes in their titular ensemble epics, two out of three of those foes being seen as both captivating and worthy opponents isn't the worst of returns.
But the record will always show that the second assembling of The Avengers brought with it perhaps the most underwhelming force to be reckoned with we'd seen up to that point - aside from another entry that is soon to become known.
Drafting in the mesmerising James Spader to don a motion capture suit and dance around like an increasingly more intelligent and violent puppet on strings, it once again looked like Marvel had finally solved its two-dimensional villain problem that'd been plaguing an embarrassing amount of its early features.
Sadly though, Ultron would go on to become a symbol of Marvel Studios' over-reliance on lightening the mood with quick one-liners and obsession with mega, city-wrecking battles against faceless enemies by the time Age of Ultron came to a close.
The What If? animated series would thankfully finally give Ultron the platform to come good on his once-intimidating and imposing introduction, pulverising planets with ease on the show. But his live-action counterpart will likely continue taking a sizeable amount of stick until the multiverse throws out another stab at the sinister bot.
