10 MCU Concept Art Designs Better Than What We Got

Doctor Strange's depiction of Dormammu was one of the most disappointing things in an otherwise solid origin story. Adapting the all-powerful villain was always going to be a tricky undertaking, but surely they could have come up with a design more memorable than a gigantic disembodied face.

Something closer to this piece of concept art would likely have hit home harder. This design presented the ruler of the Dark Dimension as a rock-like being surrounded by swathes of fire, which in some ways is closer to the comic books.

Although this version of Dormammu would likely have been more interesting, the version in the movie wasn't an abject failure as director Scott Derrickson presented the villain as a dark mirror for the Sorcerer Supreme, hence why Benedict Cumberbatch provided mocap work for the character.

This approach had merit, but in a movie that was hailed for its trippy visuals, Dormammu was one of the most forgettable sights on display.
