Venom: Let There Be Carnage wasn't a great movie by any means, but it did conclude with a show-stopping mid-credits scene where Eddie Brock aka Venom (Tom Hardy) was transported to the Earth-616 of the MCU, as a result of Doctor Strange's spell at the start of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It seemingly teased a future where Hardy's Venom and Tom Holland's Spider-Man could clash, yet this was categorically jettisoned in No Way Home's mid-credits scene barely two months later.

In this scene, Brock is drinking at a bar while learning about the state of Earth-616, when he's suddenly transported back to his own universe courtesy of Doctor Strange's final fixer-upper spell in No Way Home.

However, the final shot shows that a tiny sliver of the Venom symbiote was left behind, suggesting that while we won't get to see Hardy's Venom battle Holland's Spider-Man in the future, the Venom symbiote does now exist in the MCU.

It's reasonable to assume that the symbiote quickly selected a host and soon enough went on a rampage, yet ever since No Way Home's release the MCU has basically ignored Venom's existence.

The most probable candidate for Venom's re-appearance will surely be in Spider-Man 4, perhaps as part of the Sinister Six.

However, it's also been rumoured that Kevin Feige is more interested in having Peter Parker himself become infected with the symbiote, for a re-working of the black suit Spider-Man story previously adapted in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3.

These rumours also indicate that Venom is on the back-burner in the MCU for now, though, so don't expect to see anything happen with him for a good while.
