10 MCU Heroes Who Started Out As Villains

8. Vision

Thor: Ragnarok Valkyrie
Marvel Studios

This entry may be cheating ever so slightly, as he actually never did anything villainous, but there is a valid point to Vision’s inclusion. Technically, he began as JARVIS, and was ultimately a coming together of the Mind Stone, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Ultron, but as Vision himself his purpose was clear.

Created as a housing for Ultron’s final form as it were, Vision’s vibranium, Infinity Stone-powered body was to help defeat the Avengers, conquer the world, and according to What If…?, the multiverse. This would have been the case had the Avengers themselves not stopped it.

It was Thor who brought Vision to life, and though his intentions were immediately uncertain, with the character even admitting that he was on no one’s side, his ability to lift Mjolnir was enough for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to trust him.

Arguably he was woefully underused as a superhero in the MCU after Age of Ultron, and has been killed more times even than Loki has, but he was ready to sacrifice himself outside of the Hex to save the people of Westview, and that proved in itself why he was worthy of wielding Thor’s magic hammer.
