10 MCU Movies Blatantly Inspired By Other Movies

5. Guardians Of The Galaxy/Serenity

Another one that becomes pretty obvious once someone points it out to you. However, it is a bit hamstrung by the fact that no one actually went to see Serenity when it first came out, because no one went to see Firefly, because Fox was just - so bad at this. So it really might take someone pointing it out, and then showing you the other movie, in order for you to see the similarities.

Sure, the plots have nothing to do with each other, but in terms of themes and ideas they're practically twins. When you get right down to it, Serenity and Guardians have one specific theme in common, that being the sharing of pain by intensely traumatized individuals, so that they may work through that pain and better themselves through each other.

But whereas we'll never know where Joss Whedon was planning to take his story, due to Firefly being cancelled and Serenity getting outdone at the box office by pretty much everyone, with the reinstatement of James Gunn as director of Guardians 3, we will know exactly where the journey of the Guardians is headed, and how they will continue to make themselves better through each other.
