9. Red Skull's Punch Dents Cap's Shield (Captain America: The First Avenger)
When Steve Rogers (Captain America) hears that his good friend James "Bucky" Barnes had been killed in a battle against Johann Schmidt, he takes action. Refusing to believe that Barnes is dead, Rogers has Strategic Scientific Reserve officer Peggy Carter and engineer Howard Stark fly him behind enemy lines to mount a solo rescue attempt. He infiltrates the fortress of Schmidt's HYDRA organisation, frees Barnes and the other captured soldiers and then confronts Schmidt. The two briefly fight and Cap's opening punch damages Schmidt's now visibly prosthetic face. Schmidt responds with a punch that lets Cap know that he's not the only super-soldier out there, as his fist leaves an imprint on his original metal shield. As Schmidt retreats, he removes his mask, revealing a red, skull-like visage that earned him the villainous name "the Red Skull."
