6. Jumper

Jumper is an enjoyable but ultimately forgettable science-fiction film about people with the ability to teleport, or 'jump' from one place on Earth to another. The film, based on a novel by the same name from Steven Gould, went through a number of casting changes with a decidedly mixed result. Samuel L Jackson and Jamie Bell give it their all in the portrayal of their characters, but Hayden Christensen (of Anakin Skywalker fame) is decidedly lacking as the lead. There are also a number of questionable plot decisions, such as if Paladins use electricity to kill 'Jumpers' and they've been doing this since Medieval times, what did they use back then? Visually it's stunning. The settings, (Rome, Egypt...) and the jumping sequences are great to watch but the plot and characterisation definitely comes second. It's a shame as the film had a lot of potential and there was talk of a sequel at one point but unfortunately there's nothing to get excited about. While the book was translated beautifully to the big screen the casting showed that you need more than snazzy effects. And has Hayden Christensen done anything since? Probably not. That's two franchises on my list where his leading role and 'acting' abilities fall a vast second to the visual effects. (In case you haven't guessed his other big films are further down this list...)
