4. Tucker & Dale Vs Evil

While watching a slasher, viewers can't help thinking, "Why does everyone act like a moron?" "Why don't they call the police?" "How come people keep falling over nothing?"

But Tucker & Dare Vs Evil flips this trope on its head, by asking the question, "What if the characters acted smart... but there's no murderer?"

Eli Craig's horror-comedy follows a pair of hillbillies, who keep running into a college graduate called Allison and her friends. Despite Tucker and Dale's harmless nature, the fraternity believe the rednecks are serial killers, since they keep misinterpreting the duo's actions.

The way Dale brandishes a scythe when he first speaks to Allison makes him look like the Grim Reaper. When Allison helps Tucker and Dale dig a hole, her friends think they're forcing her to make her own grave. When a cop sees the pair holding a pair of dismembered legs, why would he think Tucker and Dale were anything except sadistic maniacs? These misunderstandings create a genius role-reversal, since the backwards hicks are the victims for once, while the horny teens are the ones causing trouble.
