10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Atlantis: The Lost Empire
7. The Same Man Who Composed The Music For The Dark Knight Worked On The Score For Atlantis
James Newton Howard has spanned a rather impressive career over forty years – being a composer, producer and conductor for many successful albums, TV shows and movies. This includes Christopher Nolan’s iconic Batman series, as well as the similarly successful Hunger Games trilogy.
It may come as a surprise that the directors of Atlantis were able to land him as the film’s main composer. This would not be Howard’s Disney debut, though, as he had previously worked on the action film Dinosaur, and would later be part of the studio’s Treasure Planet.
Approaching the project as a live-action film, Howard made different musical themes for the cultures of the surface world of Atlantis.
In particular, he infused Indonesian orchestral sound to interlace chimes, bells and gong sounds. Without James Newton Howard, it'd be fair to say we'd lose half of the impressiveness and excitement of the action sequences that make Atlantis such a wonderful experience.
