10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Atlantis: The Lost Empire

6. It Got A Sequel In 2003 Called 'Atlantis: Milo's Return'

This fact manages to be both surprising, and not at all surprising, at the same time.

In the late 90s to early 00s, Disney went on a surge of churning out cheap direct-to-video sequels because they were easily profitable. It felt like nearly every film in the canon became victim of an unsolicited follow-up movie - even those that didn't end on any kind of cliff-hanger, like Lady & The Tramp and Pocahontas.

Given that Atlantis’ original box office performance was a flop, it seems odd that they would choose to give this one a sequel. But then again, it was a quick way of making money, and the sci-fi flick was one of the newer Disney features to pick on.

The sequel really isn't worth your time. No pay cheque was big enough to bring back Michael J. Fox to return to his role of Milo, and this fact is incredibly obvious. The visuals look cheap and lifeless, with a very weak script that totally lacks the spark of adventure the original movie had.

Thank goodness it’s only seventy minutes long.
