8. He Once Left Piracy To Be An Honest Sailor After He Was Betrayed By His Best Friend
After gaining an audience from the Brethren Court as the kid who killed Captain Armando Salazar, Jack once again stayed in Shipwreck Cove. But this time, as a protégé of his father.
During the time of Jack’s service under his father’s ship the Troubadour, he developed a great bond of friendship with another pirate captain named Christophe. This was also the time of the Civil War among pirates. There was a group called the Rogue Pirates that attacked other pirate ships without following the pirate code’s rules about not killing prisoners.
The investigation exposed the identities of the Rogue Pirates in which, to Jack’s surprise, his friend Christophe was included. With Jack being a young, naïve boy, he freed his friend, not anticipating that Christophe would later break out all the Rogue Pirates from prison and kidnap Jack aboard Christophe’s ship.
This betrayal left Jack questioning his ideals about piracy and resulted in him leaving the life behind when Christophe abandoned him. From there, Jack got employed as a merchant sailor under the East India Trading Company, where he first met Cutler Beckett as a director of the company in West Africa.
