10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Captain Jack Sparrow
5. His Iconic First Scene In Film Was The Revenge Of A Minor Character
One of the most iconic scenes of Jack Sparrow was him first setting foot onto a pier just in time as his boat sank behind him in Port Royal. That very scene bewildered everyone when they first saw it, as it was the epitome of “Are you just lucky, or did you intend that?” Clearly, it's for theatrical and entertainment reasons that movie characters make it just in the nick of time to achieve great things.
That doesn't answer the question of why Jack's boat was sinking in the first place. Fortunately, a short film subtitled Wedlocked has answered this question along with many more.
As it turns out, before the events of the first film, Jack was on Shipwreck Island where he separately promised to marry two prostitutes named Giselle and Scarlett. But to their surprise, aside from the fact that Jack fooled them by giving them identical rings, they were also put up for auction to be sold as brides to the highest bidder. The pair escaped the auction and revealed that Scarlett previously removed four nails from Jack’s boat just in case he gets cold feet at their “wedding”.
