10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The DCEU
1. Batman V Superman Almost Featured Joker And Riddler
One of the biggest problems with Batman V Superman is that it's distractingly overstuffed. That's not to say that movies can't have a lot of subplots and characters, but in this case, they weren't meshed together in a seamless or entertaining way.
We had Lois Lane's investigation of the bullet, Lex's scheming, Superman's existential struggle, Wonder Woman's introduction, Justice League setup, and the actual title fight itself. There was an insane amount of material to chew on, but, at one point in time, there was almost even more.
Specifically, Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio came close to adding Joker and Riddler into the story. Speaking to Collider, Snyder stated that the iconic villains were once in the mix, but they were ultimately cut so that the film had more of a focus on Batman and Superman:
"The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict."
Had Snyder got his hands on Joker first, we could've seen something a lot different from the Jared Leto version we did get - for better or worse. As for Riddler, he's rumoured to appear in Batman 2021, but other than that, hasn't been seen since Jim Carrey's wacky turn in Batman Forever.
That being said, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor actually felt a lot like the Riddler, so maybe Snyder managed to sneak the enigmatic villain into BvS after all...
