10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The MCU

7. Indiana Jones And The MCU Are (Unofficially) In The Same Universe

As far as dream crossovers go, The Avengers and Indiana Jones is definitely up there, and fortunately for us fans, the two properties might be more closely linked than it appears on the surface.

At the start of Captain America: The First Avenger, Red Skull forcefully searches a small Norwegian town for the Tesseract, which he ultimately acquires. After opening its container and gazing into the bright blue light, he remarks "and the Führer digs for trinkets in the desert", a seemingly throwaway line. But what if it isn't?

As you might recall, the events of Raiders Of The Lost Ark and The Last Crusade found the villainous Nazis searching for two different trinkets - the Ark of the Covenant, and the Holy Grail - in the desert.

This has led to fans unofficially declaring that the two franchises exist in the same universe, with that reference to the Führer serving as a blatant nod to Indy's Nazi-filled escapades in the late 1930s.

Well what do you know, crossover dreams do come true... sort of.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
