Captain America: The Winter Soldier's third act saw corrupt S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Brock Rumlow (Frank Grillo) be brutally injured during the Triskelion's destruction.

To anyone with even the broadest Marvel comic book knowledge, this was clearly setting up his return in the next movie as the villainous Crossbones, and though that technically happened, it was depressingly short-lived.

It seemed like a given that Crossbones would be a secondary villain in Captain America: Civil War, yet he ended up appearing for just a few brief minutes in the film's opening action sequence.

Worse still, he's apprehended with relative ease and, in an infuriating capper, detonates a suicide bomb at scene's end, bringing his MCU tenure to an abrupt conclusion.

Between Grillo's intense performance in the role and the character's awesome costume, it's a crying shame he was wasted on an unremarkable cameo that additionally ensured he'd never return. Crossbones deserved better.
