10 Mistakes Marvel Need To Avoid With Black Widow
2. The Formula
The Mistake: Despite being the pinnacle of modern superhero movies, the MCU is not above certain criticisms. Chief among those criticisms is that there films tend to be a bit formulaic, which continues to be a problem based on early reactions to Doctor Strange.
Going into a Marvel film, you can pretty much guarantee there will be a likable hero, a straightforward plot, a mysterious MacGuffin, a light tone, a lot of quips, a bland villain and a happy ending.
It's hard to blame them really, they've found something that works and are hesitant to change things up too much. But playing it safe can only work for so long and audiences WILL tire.
The Solution: Take some risks with this one. We've mentioned the need to create a different kind of Marvel villain and there are a few other ways to break the mould with this film.
Go for a darker feel to things. This should have the bleak and tense feel of a Cold War thriller so there doesn't need to be constant jokes or a comic relief character. Give the plot a few twists and ditch the MacGuffin for the more personal approach.
