10 Modern Action Film Stars Who Failed To Meet Their Potential
9. Sam Worthington
Seemingly from out of nowhere, Sam Worthington was all of a sudden positioned as 'the next big thing' in Hollywood a few years ago. Which is to be expected really, when your first three major studio features earn over $3.5bn at the box office with your face front-and-center on the marketing. However, despite scoring such high-profile action-orientated roles so early in his mainstream career, any talk of the Australian actor becoming the next big action star cooled significantly when his limitations became so obvious. Worthington possesses both the looks and the necessary physicality to become a great action star, but these days audiences like their protagonists to be a little more three-dimensional than they were back in the 1980's. Unfortunately, most of the actor's blockbuster output has seen him deliver charisma-free performances that are sorely lacking in both levity and personality, and his time at the top was short-lived. Now more content accepting supporting parts, Worthington is seemingly out of the action game until Avatar 2 rolls around. The actor is capable of giving a solid performance on occasion, but has still yet to lead an action movie of his own without the backing of a $150m budget and an abundance of CGI.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
