10 Modern Movie Soundtracks That Are Better Than The Film

1. Gone Girl

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross did a great job with the score for The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but they really knocked it out of the park with Gone Girl.

David Fincher's movie itself is dark and creepy, and the soundtrack even more so. The score is downright terrifying, from the opening track making us feel like something is so fundamentally wrong with what we're about to see unfold.

This same musical theme comes back around at the end of the movie, this time taking on a completely new meaning. The film's climax is so insanely disturbing, and while the score in the beginning got across the feeling of discomfort and mystery, when it comes back at the end, it's a feeling of complete despair. It's as if the movie universe has totally crumbled, and we're hearing the aftermath through music.

There's also the track that plays over the gruesome death of a certain character in the film's third act. It's such a shocking moment, and the track that goes along with it is downright nuts. The rest of the score is pretty subdued, but in this sequence, it's loud and in our faces, a jarring shift to go along with a pretty jarring sequence.

Just like the movie itself, this score is what nightmares are made of.
