This one is actually a combination of score and original soundtrack, but it's far too iconic not to be mentioned.

Drive is a movie that's basically all about the music. Following a mostly silent, enigmatic driver played by Ryan Gosling, so much of what we remember about the movie comes down to it's electronic-pop soundtrack.

For the opening scene, we have a song called Tick Of The Clock by Chromatics, which is a great electronic song but also serves as blood-pumping score as we're watching a thrilling getaway sequence. Then over the opening credits we have Nightcall by Kavinsky, which in conjunction with the noir imagery, feels like Refn giving his thesis statement of the film through music.

And of course we have A Real Hero by College & Electric Youth, which plays over the conclusion of the film and is a great note to finish on, with extremely appropriate lyrics that fit with the end of the driver's journey. Aside from the choice of songs, there's also the original score by Cliff Martinez, which is mostly just tone but is as strange and dreamlike as the film itself.

Here's a movie where there was as much buzz around the music as the movie itself, and it has even been released on vinyl. That's when you know you have an iconic soundtrack.
