10 Moments Comic Book Movies Dropped The Ball

2. "Martha" - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Batman V Superman, the coming together of arguably the two greatest heroes in DC's catalogue, should have been exceptional. Taking inspiration from the wildly popular Dark Knight Returns comic, introducing both the DCEU's Batman and Wonder Woman, Dawn of Justice could have taken huge steps in bringing the franchise closer to the MCU.

However, the movie disappointed on just about every level, from the villain, to the motivations of the titular characters, and the dialogue. In particular, the now famous 'Martha' scene.

Earlier in the movie, Bruce Wayne was prepared to go to war with, and kill Superman if there was just a one per cent chance that he was their enemy. He was a man obsessed with taking down the Man of Steel because of the threat he posed Earth if he decided to turn his powers against humanity.

However, this all went out the window when Bruce became aware that his nemesis' mother shared the same name his own. Thanks to this mere coincidence, Batman was happy for Superman to live, despite there being no change in the threat he posed. This was shockingly poor writing, and was something that stuck in the mind of the audience after the movie had finished for all the wrong reasons.
