10 Moments When Comic Book Movie Villains Were Totally Humiliated

3. The Joker's Master Plan Fails (The Dark Knight)

As far as devious scheming going, the Joker is a deranged genius. Throughout the course of The Dark Knight, all of his schemes succeed in making Batman and all of Gotham City question their own integrity through double bluffs and slight of hand that would impress the most machiavellian of villains - despite claiming to be an agent of pure unrestrained chaos. Being always three steps ahead of one's opponents has undeniable benefits, but one notable drawback - when one slips up, it is really obvious. This moment comes for the Joker during his grand "social experiment". When he rigs the two boats leaving Gotham with explosives, and offers his ultimatums, he is embarrassed in the worst way - his subjects refuse to comply. When neither boat detonates the other one, the Joker is left speechless in front of his nemesis. In a twisted way, this humiliation is the Joker's way of suffering for having faith in the people of Gotham - a twisted mirror to The Dark Knight who insists that there is good in Gotham. All he wanted was for them to prove their own depravity, was that too much to ask?
