3. No One Will Save You
With the alien-based genre being so saturated, reaching a peak in 1986 that is yet to be matched, it must be incredibly difficult for a movie to set itself apart from the rest. No One Will Save You certainly managed this, but as a genuinely scary film with virtually no dialogue whatsoever.
Just one short conversation, as well as a sentence cut short over the phone, are the only truly audible words spoken as Kaitlyn Dever leads a unique effort from Brian Duffield. No dialogue was needed for this to be utterly compelling.
The tension is built expertly in the first instance, as Brynn's (Dever) home is targeted by aliens. Quieter than A Quiet Place, with barely a glimpse of the extra-terrestrials, that all made for a strong opening that was genuinely difficult to look away from. The piece ultimately evolved into a different type of film, exploring more psychological and ambiguous aspects than outright fright, but take nothing away from it, this is a very strong outing.
Releasing on Hulu and Disney+ doesn't exactly scream horror, but this is a gem of a monster movie worth seeking out.
