3. The Cast Were Told It Was An Original Horror Movie - Blair Witch
Now in fairness, this is probably the most innocuous feat of trickery on this list, but it still nevertheless involved misleading the entire central cast about the true nature of the project.
2016's Blair Witch sequel was shot under intense secrecy, enough that even the cast and much of the crew had no idea it was related to an existing IP.
It was shot and initially marketed as an original found footage movie called The Woods, and only at its world premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con did director Adam Wingard reveal that it was, in fact, a new Blair Witch film.
In this case it might've been a pleasant surprise to many of the cast members to unexpectedly have themselves associated with a major horror movie franchise, but at the same time, you can't blame them if they felt a little sour about being kept out of the loop and not knowing exactly what they were getting themselves into.
