10 More Actors Who Prepared For Roles In The Worst Possible Way
3. Peter Weller - RoboCop
These days, the wizardry of technology means problems like Peter Weller's prep on RoboCop are highly unlikely to ever arise. But back in 1986, as RoboCop entered production, poor Weller was left frustrated in his mission to fully get himself into the mindset of Alex Murphy.
One would think if you were to be expected to wear a heavy, clunky, uncomfortable costume for months on end, you'd at least spend some time before the shoot to get acclimatised to this outfit.
For Peter Weller, that was indeed his plan. Ever the pro, Weller had put aside one whole month to get used to the RoboCop suit before cameras even got rolling.
Then Weller waited... and waited... and waited.
By the time filming had started, the RoboCop suit still wasn't ready. And when the time finally came for Weller to try the suit out, it was on the first day that he was due to perform in the get-up - which had given him zero preparation or rehearsal time to play the cyborg version of Murphy.
So frustrated was Peter Weller - and losing a supposed 3 lbs a day in the costume - his anger towards director Paul Verhoeven saw him actually fired from the film mid-production.
Aliens' Lance Henriksen was being weighed up as Weller's replacement. Well, until the realisation was made that the RoboCop suit had been specially constructed to fit Peter Weller's frame.
