10 More Behind The Scenes Reasons For MCU Characters' Quirks

6. Steven Grant's Accent

With the introduction of Moon Knight and Oscar Isaac’s MCU debut came not one, not two, but three new characters. Though in the comics Marc Spector is typically the main persona behind the Moon Knight cowl, for Disney+ this role fell to Steven Grant.

Steven was much changed in the MCU from the trust fund billionaire in the comics, but he was also given a completely different accent to what was expected by Oscar Isaac. While Marc had a typical American drawl, Steven was given a surprising English accent.

In early development on the series there was no intention for Steven to speak in a different way to Marc. According to writer Jeremy Slater, the main difference was to be their attitude until Isaac himself suggested the change in speaking. He was told, as he revealed to EW, essentially that the series was set in London as an escape from the usual New York setting, and so he decided to run with it.

After researching different areas of London, and taking inspiration from the likes of Peter Sellers and Karl Pilkington, Isaac landed on something not necessarily meant to be a spot on English accent, but instead was essentially Marc’s best version of one.
