7. The Iron Man/Spider-Man Mentor Dynamic
The difficulty of creating a genuinely engaging mentor/mentee relationship is probably one of the big reasons a lot of superhero films avoid including any kind of sidekick. It’s incredibly easy for the mentee to sound whiny and unappreciative, and for the mentor to sound unreasonably mysterious to the one person they should trust.
This is exactly why the dynamic between Spider-Man and Iron Man in the MCU is so absolutely wonderful. Seeing the pair fight, bond, and grow through their interactions with one another is as heartwarming as it is fantastically well written – something helped further by the acting chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland.
Although the MCU is chock full of interesting and endearing character relationships, there’s something about the bond between check geniuses who just want to do good in the world that has that little extra something.
