The bond between the Winter Soldier and Captain America is the one of the oldest and strongest in the MCU. The pair have proves time and time again that they are willing to do anything to protect each other, regardless of the cost. With films like Civil War being practically dedicated to showing the strength of their friendship, it's only natural that the moment in Endgame where the pair split ways would be a big one.

A film that wanted to generate maximum drama could have done a lot with this. After all, the comics have had endless tragic separations, that are made significantly less tragic when they end up turning out to be temporary. In the MCU, though, they go the exact other way, with the pair's final conversation before Steve goes back in time for good happening offscreen.

While many fans complained about this, it's actually a kind of smart move, as viewers can fill in the blanks with whatever they think would have fit the pair, arguably making the whole thing even more emotional.
