On August 31st 1997, Princess Diana of Wales tragically died in a car crash, alongside her partner, Dodi Fayed. Numerous conspiracy theories circulated following her death, with one suggesting that the princess was assassinated by The Royal Family.

In 2011, Keith Allen was set on releasing a documentary called Unlawful Killing that centred around this brazen claim. Rather than remaining impartial, the doc depicts theory as if it is set in stone. Despite the fact Allen referred to his work as "a very forensic analysis", he repeats disproven arguments about this case that were made by Dodi's father, Mohamed. (It's worth mentioning Mohamed Fayed funded this £2.5 million documentary single-handedly.)

To nobody's surprise, a defamation case was made against the film's subject matter. As a result, the director was ordered to make 87 cuts to Unlawful Killing if he wished to release it without suffering legal action.

Refusing to play ball, Allen tried to have his controversial documentary released in the United States, believing the censorship there wouldn't be as stringent. When that didn't pan out, the film's release was put on hold.

Apart from a single screening at Cannes Film Festival, Unlawful Killing has never been officially released to the public.
